Was contacted by Hal's Masonry, Inc. a few days ago. They are a local business out of Grayling, Mi - about 20 miles from my location. Owner came out yesterday to size up the job and answer questions. Am currently waiting to receive the job details and written estimate. Initial impression is positive. Owner was knowlegable and responsive. Using your 11-point checklist as a guide, this company seems to meet most of the requirements set forth. Only after the estimate and job details are recieved will I be able to fully rate this company, however. This is the second of two bids put out, so I haven't made a decision at this point.
We hired Allure Construction from your recommendation, the job started yesterday with the demolition of the old driveway. Forms and rebar and supposed to happen today. So far this contractor has been quite responsive with emails and activity.

I\'d like to get a quote for the cost to extend the width of my driveway by approximately 1 car width. This additional width would extend past the edge of the house, so I\'d like to continue this new addition past/parallel to the side of the house. The total surface area is roughly 800 square feet. A portion of this area would likely need some built up ground since the current ground slightly slopes away from the house. On a related note, do you know what would need to be done if there are utility boxes which may be close to interfering with the expansion?
Remove old concrete driveway and sidewalk to house and replace with new concrete driveway and sidewalk -- same footprint -- must be landscaped properly so that no water goes into basement or garage and there is proper drainage -- probably add gravel or something to give it a good foundation -- the old driveway lasted for about 40 years with no water where not wanted -- I want the new driveway to do the same -- possibly replace cement base under steps
