Considering a pea gravel driveway, and your site has been most helpful. Is there a definitive point where a driveway’s incline precludes the (pea)gravel option from being viable? Ours is not a steep drive but does slope down from the house towards the street.

Hi Georjajim!

I’m not a fan of pea gravel for a driveway at all. In my opinion… a gravel driveway should be hard and durable as pea gravel will move from driving on it quite a bit and need to be re-leveled and raked quite frequently. A good solid base with a colored crushed granite topping is the best solution for a gravel driveway.

Sounds reasonable to me. I’ve never been asked for a de-icer for gravel driveways! Let us know how it works out for you!
